After being teased for the past month, Careem and Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have finally introduced Careem Bike to select places in the city, where you can rent a bike for as low as 20 AED per day. Phase 1 of the project will see 780 pedal-assisted bikes launch on 78 locations in Dubai that include Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Beach Road, Jumeirah Lake Towers, The Greens, Barsha Heights, Dubai Water Canal, Dubai Media City, Downtown Dubai, and Al Qudra, Al Karama, and Al Mankhool.

The bikes can be found on solar-powered stations and will be equipped with GPS for tracking. You can rent and pay for a bike using the Careem Bike app, where it will require you to scan a QR code on the bicycle and enter a 5-digit code to unlock the bike.

Careem Bike will let you use the bikes on a top speed of 30 km/h and use them on bicycle dedicated tracks or on safe roads marked by the RTA that can be used for the service. According to regulation, these bicycles can’t be used by children under 15 years of age unless they are accompanied by adults aged 18 or older.

Careem said that during the 15-year contract with RTA for Careem Bike, it is looking to operate 1,750 bicycles and install 175 stations in the first two years of operations where it will then expand to a total of 3,500 bicycles and 350 stations over a span of five years.

The Careem Bike is available on iOS and Android devices. You can also use an existing Careem account to log in.
