Holme Valley charity holds Pre-Loved Prom Event where young people can dress to impress and prove their green credentials – Huddersfield Hub

A Holme Valley charity aims to promote a more sustainable lifestyle – and ease pressure on family budgets – by holding a fundraiser to encourage young people to consider pre-loved outfits for Prom nights.

With occasion wear costing hundreds of pounds and often only being worn once, Holme Valley Climate Action Partnership is holding a Pre-Loved Prom Event.

The sale, to be held at Holmfirth Tech in Huddersfield Road, Holmfirth, on Saturday March 2 (2pm-5pm) will raise money for The Kirkwood, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice and the partnership.

Prom wear including dresses, suits and shoes in good condition can be donated at The Kirkwood and Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice shops in Holmfirth.

Sale prices will range from £15 for some pre-loved items to £125 for new or nearly new designer items. The collection includes over 100 dresses, a range of suits in great condition, shoes and accessories.

Sian Taylor, development worker at Holme Valley Climate Action Partnership, said: “School proms have grown in popularity in recent years and are now a big event in any young person’s life.

“Outfits can be expensive and put a real strain on family budgets at a time when everyone is feeling the pinch. Then there’s the environmental impact of fast fashion and items simply worn once and then put away and forgotten about.

“The idea behind the event is to promote ‘reduce-reuse-recycle’ and encourage young people to choose pre-loved over brand new, cutting waste and cost for their families and the wider community.

“When you see the quality of items available it’s not a difficult choice to make, and all proceeds go to good causes.”

Holme Valley Climate Action Partnership is a charity facilitating projects that can reduce carbon emissions. It works with local groups, businesses and individuals, helping a community work towards net zero.

The charity is keen to form partnerships to take action on climate change. Get in touch by emailing hvcapmail@gmail.com or search Holme Valley Climate Action Partnership on Facebook.
