The Joint European Torus (JET) nuclear fusion facility at Oxfordshire in the UK is being decommissioned after 40 years of research work, a press release said.

The reactor fired its last pulse on 18th December 2023 and produced a record amount of fusion energy.

Nuclear fusion is touted as the technological leap that could fulfill the world’s energy demands without the carbon emissions produced by fossil fuels. The energy generation process is theoretically straightforward and the opposite of nuclear fission.
