‘115MW Umoyilanga Avondale PV Project Launched in South Africa’

Trina Solar has partnered with China Energy International Group and China Gezhouba Group to begin the Umoyilanga Avondale 115MW photovoltaic project in South Africa. The project, located in Apington, Northern Cape, South Africa, aims to promote global energy sustainability through innovative solar solutions.

Trina Solar will utilize 109,968 NEG21C.20 Vertex N modules to power the project, with the first batch already delivered this month. These modules are known for their high power, efficiency, reliability, and low levelized cost of energy. The electricity generated will be seamlessly integrated into the existing grid infrastructure via a 132-kV transmission line to the ESKOM substation.

Zhao Lei, Head of Strategic Key Accounts at Trina Solar, expressed excitement about the project, highlighting the company’s commitment to sustainable energy adoption. Similarly, Hu Yuhong, General Manager at China Energy International Group South Africa, emphasized the project’s role in addressing South Africa’s power shortage and promoting a low-carbon energy structure.

The Umoyilanga Avondale project is a groundbreaking initiative that aligns with Trina Solar’s mission of “Solar Energy for All.” By pioneering innovative solutions, the company aims to shape a net-zero future, empower communities, stimulate economic growth, and uphold environmental sustainability.

Founded in 1997, Trina Solar is a global leader in PV products, PV systems, and smart energy solutions. The company is committed to leading the way in smart PV and energy storage solutions, contributing to a sustainable future. Trina Solar was listed on the Science and Technology Innovation Board (STAR Market) of the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2020, making it the first PV and energy storage company to go public on the STAR Market.
