‘1,720 Startups Recorded in Colombia in 2023, Marking a 30% Yearly Growth’

Colombia’s startup ecosystem continues to thrive as it climbs four spots to rank 40th in the Global Startup Ecosystem Index. With over half of the startups concentrated in sectors such as fintech and healthtech, the country is making a mark on the global stage.

According to the latest “Colombia Tech Report” by Kpmg and various academic and commercial institutions, there has been a significant 30% increase in new startups, totaling 1,720. This growth is not just limited to major cities like Bogotá and Antioquia, as regions such as Valle del Cauca and Atlántico are also seeing a rise in new ventures.

Andrés Raigosa of Andi points out the need for better support systems to further enhance the growth of startups in Colombia. Bogotá, in particular, is recognized as a crucial hub for startups across Latin America.

The startup landscape in Colombia is diverse, with significant presence in sectors like fintech, SaaS, healthtech, business management, proptech, and edtech. María Paula Peñaranda of Kpmg emphasizes the importance of this diversification in driving the national economy forward.

Notable startups like Gopass, Simetrik, and Addi have been recognized for their contributions to financing, employment, and innovation within the country. As Colombia’s entrepreneurial ecosystem continues to evolve, there is great potential for further growth and success.
