The Samsung Gear S, with its standout design, may have not lived up to its full potential due to some performance issues. Despite its ambition, the device faced challenges like a complex user interface, inconsistent standalone capabilities, and the need for a separate monthly plan to unlock its full features.
Following the release of the Gear S2, Samsung shifted towards a more conventional rounded design for its smartwatch models, sacrificing some of the interactive qualities of the original Gear S display. However, newer models like the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 6 have found success with a balance of display size, app variety, health-tracking features, and durability.
Modern Samsung smartphones no longer support the original Gear S, as they have moved on to Wear OS from Tizen operating system. The transition has brought improvements and fixed limitations, making it impossible to connect the Gear S to newer Samsung devices beyond 2020.
