‘Partnership Agreement Signed Between UNDP and Pacific Islands Forum in Fiji’

A new agreement has been signed between the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Pacific Office in Fiji and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) to enhance sustainable development efforts across the Blue Pacific. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aims to foster collaboration between the two entities, based on key regional strategies such as UNDP Pacific’s Multi-Country Programme Document 2023-2027 and PIFS’s 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.

The agreement emphasizes the significance of regional cooperation and the collective pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It focuses on supporting areas like political leadership, governance, regionalism, people-centered development, and peace and security to ensure all Pacific Island Countries have a say in shaping and implementing the Strategy.

By bringing PIFS at the forefront of the regional architecture and strengthening ties with other partners, the MOU aims to facilitate effective resource mobilization and policy alignment for the successful delivery of the 2050 Strategy. This partnership will play a crucial role in translating ambitious goals into tangible outcomes, advancing the vision for a united and prosperous Blue Pacific.

Munkhtuya Altangerel, Resident Representative of the UNDP Pacific Office in Fiji, stated that this agreement marks a significant milestone towards a more secure and prosperous Blue Pacific. By working together to develop essential programs across various sectors, the parties involved aim to address regional needs and ensure a brighter future for generations to come.

The MOU was signed at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat in Suva, underscoring the commitment to advancing sustainable development in the region.
