Apple recently introduced a new version of its Final Cut Pro software specifically designed for the iPad, alongside the launch of the all-new M4 iPad Pros. The updated app now includes a Live Multicam feature, allowing users to capture up to four different angles of a scene using connected iPhones and iPads. To complement this feature, Apple also introduced the Final Cut Camera app, which seamlessly integrates video feeds from multiple devices into Final Cut Pro.
Moreover, the Final Cut Camera app offers users the ability to fine-tune settings such as white balance, manual focus, ISO, and shutter speed while providing visual aids like zebras and audio meters. Focus peaking is also available to enhance the camera system on iPad Air and iPad Pro. Additionally, Final Cut Camera can be downloaded as a standalone app for free, enabling professional video recording with precise manual controls on iPhone and iPad.
The updated Final Cut Pro for iPad now supports external projects, allowing users to create or open projects on an external device and import media without utilizing iPad storage space. Furthermore, users can enjoy additional customization options such as 12 color-grading presets, eight basic text titles, 20 soundtracks, and new dynamic backgrounds.
Apple highlights that on M4-powered iPad Pros, Final Cut Pro can complete final video rendering up to 2x faster and support up to 4x more streams of ProRes RAW compared to the previous M1 chip. The app is also compatible with the Apple Pencil Pro, offering features like a squeeze gesture, haptic feedback, and Find My compatibility.
In addition to the iPad version, Final Cut Pro for Mac will receive an update introducing Enhance Light and Color, an AI feature designed to enhance color, color balance, contrast, and brightness in a single step. The new Smooth Slo-Mo feature intelligently blends video frames for smoother slow-motion effects.
For pricing and availability, Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 will be available later this spring as a free update for existing users or for .99 per month (or per year) for new users, with a one-month free trial included. Final Cut Camera will also be available for free later this spring as a standalone app. Lastly, Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8 will be a free update for existing users and available for 9.99 for new users on the Mac App Store, with a 90-day free trial for all new users.
