Troy restaurant owners bid farewell after three decades

After 36 years of serving loyal customers in Troy, Mo., Krumbly Burger is set to close its doors for the last time this Saturday. The restaurant, founded by Matt Bass and his late father, Ted, has been a staple in the community since it first opened.

Matt and Ted stumbled upon Krumbly Burger at a franchise show, where they fell in love with the concept presented by Mr. Baker, a salesman. Despite starting as a franchise, the restaurant quickly became a cherished family business, with several generations of the Bass family working there over the years.

The decision to sell the business came in January, with Matt and Janet citing a desire to slow down and spend more time with family. While originally hoping to keep Krumbly Burger alive, the sale of the building prompted a change in plans. Matt now plans to open a food truck to continue sharing the beloved menu items with customers.

Known for its loose meat burgers, Krumbly Burger has been a favorite among locals for decades. The menu also includes tacos, chili dogs, catfish, and other comfort food classics. The impending closure has sparked an outpouring of nostalgia from the community, with many expressing sadness at the loss of a beloved establishment.

The final day of business for Krumbly Burger is on Saturday, May 25, with the entire Bass family coming together to work one last shift. Following the closure, Matt looks forward to embarking on new adventures with his wife, including renovating a vacation home and launching the Krumbly Burger food truck in the fall. Despite the bittersweet end to this chapter, Matt reflects on the joy and satisfaction of serving his community and looks forward to the future.
