Future operations of Starship to be discussed in series of FAA meetings

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently hosted the first of a series of meetings to assess the potential environmental impacts of proposed Starship/Super Heavy operations at the Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39-A.

SpaceX, the company behind the project, has already built some infrastructure at the site. They are now seeking approval for further enhancements, such as a Super Heavy catch tower, facilities for propellant generation and storage, and a deluge system to support up to 44 Starship launches annually.

While some residents have expressed concerns about the frequency of the launches, others believe that the Starship project could lead to increased access to space at a lower cost.

In addition to the proposed operations at the Kennedy Space Center, SpaceX is also developing a version of its Starship for NASA’s Artemis III mission, where it will be used as a lunar lander.

The FAA has scheduled another public meeting on June 13, 2024, from 6 to 8 pm at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. A virtual meeting will follow on June 17, 2024.
