The series is the result of an exceptional collaboration between the talented digital storytelling and podcast teams at USAZINE, alongside three dedicated researchers: Ivan Franceschini, a lecturer specializing in Chinese Studies at the University of Melbourne; Ling Li, a PhD candidate at Ca’ Foscari University in Venice; and independent researcher Mark Bo. Together, they have spent years documenting the rise of this illicit industry by interviewing nearly 100 survivors, compiling their stories for an upcoming book.

Listeners can hear first-hand accounts from two brave survivors, George from Uganda and Lee from Malaysia, who share harrowing stories of recruitment and entrapment in compounds across Laos and Myanmar.
