Prestigious publications impede scientists who do not speak English

A recent study has found that prestigious scientific journals may be hindering non-English speaking scientists in sharing their research. The study highlights the challenges faced by academics in regions where English is not commonly spoken, as they must choose between publishing in their native language for local accessibility or in English for a wider audience.

According to experts, non-native English speakers spend more time and effort writing and editing papers in English compared to their counterparts who are fluent in the language. This presents a barrier to the global dissemination of scientific information and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.

To address these issues and promote a more inclusive scientific community, efforts must be made to support non-English speaking scientists in publishing their research effectively. By recognizing and addressing the challenges they face, academic platforms can ensure equal opportunities for all researchers to contribute to the global scientific discourse.
