3 key findings on generative AI from nonprofit organizations

Nonprofit organizations worldwide play a crucial role in their communities, offering valuable services such as skills development and biodiversity conservation. However, these organizations often face challenges due to limited resources and burdensome administrative tasks.

Studies have shown that generative AI tools can significantly increase productivity, with a potential improvement of up to 66%. This boost in efficiency could be particularly beneficial to nonprofits, allowing them to free up time by automating routine tasks and focusing on impactful initiatives.

In a recent survey of over 4,000 organizations participating in the Google for Nonprofits program, insights were gathered on the potential benefits and challenges of utilizing generative AI in the nonprofit sector. Here are three key findings from the survey, along with some AI tools that nonprofits can start using today.

1. 75% of nonprofits believe that generative AI could revolutionize their marketing efforts.

When asked about the immediate potential of AI in their work, survey respondents highlighted marketing tasks that involve content creation and personalization. Whether it’s crafting persuasive ad copy to attract new donors or launching a campaign to raise awareness, effective fundraising and communication require significant customization.

With AI-powered Google Search ads, nonprofits can target new audiences with tailored messages that align with their objectives. Tools like responsive search ads enable organizations to input multiple headlines and descriptions for an ad, allowing Google Ads to test different combinations and determine the most effective one over time.

For instance, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) leveraged Google Ad Grants to deliver 48 million public service announcements. These announcements ranged from promoting voter registration for upcoming elections to raising awareness about local causes like supporting female entrepreneurs. By targeting the right audience, UNDP was able to maximize the impact of their campaigns effectively.
