‘Dubai Outlines Plan for Green Mobility with Bold 2030 Strategy’

The 82nd meeting of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) was recently chaired by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, in the presence of Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the DSCE. The meeting, which took place virtually, focused on the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030.

The Dubai Green Mobility Strategy aims to promote green and sustainable transport in Dubai in alignment with the Emirate’s strategic objectives regarding sustainability, air quality, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) presented the strategy, highlighting plans to increase the number of electric and hybrid vehicles in its fleet in the coming years. This initiative supports national efforts to promote sustainable development and reduce carbon emissions from public transport options such as buses, taxis, and the metro. RTA has developed a roadmap with annual programs and initiatives to transition all public transport options to be carbon-free by 2050.

During the meeting, the council also reviewed the progress of the annual management plan, evaluating key performance indicators based on approved programs and projects that support governance of sectors such as water, electricity, energy, and central cooling.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the DSCE, emphasized the council’s commitment to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision of making Dubai the smartest and happiest city by promoting eco-friendly transport options. The DSCE’s plans prioritize sustainable development and aim to enhance the quality of life for citizens, residents, and visitors in Dubai.

Dubai has witnessed a significant growth in electric and hybrid vehicles within RTA’s fleet, in addition to other popular transit choices like the metro and buses. This shift underscores the increasing popularity of public transport, as evidenced by the rising daily passenger numbers, as noted by Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the DSCE.
