‘FLIRT H2 Hydrogen Train Sets Record in Guinness World Records’

Stadler’s hydrogen-powered FLIRT H2 train has recently made headlines by setting a new Guinness World Record for travelling the longest distance without refuelling or recharging. The train covered an impressive 1,741.7 miles (2,803 kilometres) to achieve this milestone.

This groundbreaking achievement was officially recognized after the train’s successful journey, which started on the evening of March 20, 2024, and concluded on March 22, 2024. The journey took 46 hours and was completed by a team of engineers from Stadler and ENSCO in shifts.

The FLIRT H2 train, first unveiled at InnoTrans 2022 in Berlin, was initially manufactured for the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBTCA). It utilizes innovative solutions to integrate fuel cells and hydrogen storage systems into the vehicle. These solutions underwent rigorous testing in Switzerland and Colorado before the record-setting attempt.

Dr. Ansgar Brockmeyer, EVP of Marketing and Sales at Stadler, expressed pride in the team’s accomplishment, stating, “This world record establishes the ideal performance range of our hydrogen version of the best-selling FLIRT Electric Multiple Unit, the FLIRT H2.”

This is not the first time Stadler has made waves in the world of alternative propulsion. In December 2021, their battery-powered FLIRT Akku model set a world record for the longest journey with a battery multiple unit in pure battery mode, covering 224 kilometres in Germany.

Stadler continues to push boundaries in sustainable transportation and is proud to hold multiple Guinness World Records titles for their innovative and eco-friendly train models.
