Duncan McPhee Steps Down as COO of Lookers

After more than 15 years at Lookers, Duncan McPhee has decided to step down from his role as chief operating officer, confirmed Kuldeep Billan, executive chairman of Lookers.

Last year was a transformative period for Lookers as they moved from being a listed company on the London Stock Exchange to private ownership. Throughout this change, McPhee played a crucial role and made significant contributions. The operations committee will now report directly to Steve Kwak, the global chief operating officer.

McPhee expressed his pride in being part of Lookers’ progress over his nearly 16-year tenure, highlighting the exceptional team he had the opportunity to work with. Lookers, one of the largest multi-franchise dealer groups in the UK and Ireland, represents 33 volume and premium car manufacturers across a network of over 150 franchised locations.

The transition to private ownership came after a £504 million deal by Canadian firm Alpha Auto Group. This change led to the departure of former chief executive Mark Raban and a review of business operations resulting in 650 redundancies across the group.

Recently, Lookers unveiled its first new and used multi-franchise Car Hub retail concept focusing on electric vehicle (EV) sales in Middlesbrough. The company also invested £3m in transforming its Volkswagen dealership in Teesside and opened a new Nissan showroom in Sunderland as part of its expansion strategy in the northeast.
