‘Native Americans Embraced by OSU for STEM Education’

The Oklahoma State University-Stillwater campus is gearing up to welcome Native American students, educators, and families interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education with a series of events scheduled for April.

The American Indian in Science and Engineering Society (AISES) Region 4 Conference is on April 5-6, followed by the National American Indian Science and Engineering Fair on April 6, and First Nations Day on April 4.

AISES is a national organization focused on native representation in STEM fields, catering to members across pre-college, college, and professional settings. The organization envisions a future where Native people thrive and contribute significantly to the global community. The OSU-AISES college chapter will host the Region 4 conference, encouraging pre-college students and families to register for free before April 4. Participants can view the full schedule, including meal times and keynote speakers, on the AISES website.

The National American Indian Science and Engineering Fair (NAISEF) is a competitive event for indigenous youth from middle school to high school level, organized by AISES, the Oklahoma Water Resources Center, and the College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology K-12 programs. The fair will take place at the ENDEAVOR Lab, with free parking available in lots 10 and 6. Educators interested in judging, volunteering, or attending the educator lounge and awards dinner should register by March 18.

Additionally, American Indian Awareness Week, hosted by the Center for Sovereign Nations, will run from March 31 to April 6. The week’s events will conclude with the Mr. And Miss. American Indian OSU Pageant and Graduation Honoring Ceremony. High school students can register for First Nations Day on April 4 to engage with OSU students, explore the Center for Sovereign Nations, tour the campus, and learn about admission and scholarship opportunities tailored to their needs.

These events aim to celebrate and promote Native American representation in STEM fields and higher education, offering valuable resources and connections for indigenous youth interested in pursuing careers in these areas.
