Americans are gearing up for a rare total solar eclipse on April 8th, with approximately 32 million people in North America set to witness the event. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Krispy Kreme has announced the launch of their Total Solar Eclipse Doughnut, which will be available from April 5th to April 8th in honor of the eclipse.
The special doughnut features an Original Glazed Doughnut dipped in black chocolate icing, adorned with silver sprinkles, and filled with a buttercream made with OREO pieces. In the center of the doughnut, customers will find a whole OREO cookie, adding a unique touch to the treat. This isn’t the first time Krispy Kreme has released a special doughnut for a solar eclipse, with the brand previously offering a chocolate-glazed Original Glaze doughnut during the 2017 eclipse.
Dave Skena, Global Chief Brand Officer for Krispy Kreme, expressed excitement about the limited-time offering, stating, “Eclipses are rare and so is our out-of-this-world Total Solar Eclipse Doughnut. Even if you can’t be in the path of totality, you can indulge in these treats to the fullest. Stop by and grab some for yourself and for sharing, showcasing your love for science and great taste simultaneously.”
In addition to their eclipse-themed doughnuts, Krispy Kreme has previously released space-related treats such as the Mars Doughnut and the Strawberry Supermoon Doughnut. The brand continues to explore creative ways to celebrate celestial events and milestones in space exploration.
In conjunction with the eclipse, ABC News and Nat Geo are teaming up to present a two-hour TV special, “Eclipse Across America,” which will be simulcast on various Disney platforms. Hosted by David Muir and Linsey Davis, the special will feature live coverage from Burlington, Vermont, and will follow the eclipse as it progresses across different cities in North America.
