Officials are taking Welsh Kepak factory hygiene concerns very seriously

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is taking hygiene concerns at a Welsh Kepak factory very seriously, according to a spokesperson. Chris Jones, the FSA head of operational delivery in Wales, stated that the FSA is aware of concerns raised in an article by Wales Online regarding hygiene controls at the Kepak facility in Merthyr Tydfil.

Jones emphasized the importance of food businesses in ensuring the safety and authenticity of food products. The FSA is closely monitoring the situation and will take immediate action if any food safety or authenticity breaches are identified.

The FSA is responsible for overseeing official controls in all approved premises in England and Wales. There is daily official veterinarian presence at the Kepak meat cutting plant in Merthyr Tydfil, and the premises are regularly audited by FSA personnel and field veterinary coordinators.

A spokesperson for Kepak reassured the public that health and safety are top priorities for the company, with stringent hygiene policies in place. The company’s food safety standards are independently verified, with regular audits by the FSA and USDA. Kepak has also received high accreditation through the BRCGS and undergoes regular customer audits to ensure quality control procedures are maintained throughout production and distribution.
