‘Recommendations for federal transmission permitting in a virtual event’

Don’t miss the opportunity to join us on Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM EST for the launch of a new report that provides evidence-based recommendations for overcoming barriers to federal transmission permitting.

The United States is facing a critical moment in modernizing its energy infrastructure to meet the increasing demand, address grid resilience challenges, and achieve decarbonization goals. Studies suggest that a significant increase in transmission capacity is needed over the next three decades, but the pace of deployment is falling short.

One of the key factors in expediting the deployment of transmission lines is improving the permitting process for critical high-voltage lines that require federal review. While there is a consensus on the need to enhance and strengthen these processes, there is a lack of evidence and consolidated data on the best way to do so.

Through thorough data compilation, interviews with developers and federal officials, as well as in-depth case studies, we have identified crucial insights and recommendations to overcome barriers and streamline the path to transmission deployment. Join us for a discussion on actionable steps to improve transmission permitting while safeguarding communities, environmental integrity, and the National Environmental Policy Act.

Our keynote speaker for the event is Jeff Dennis, Deputy Director for Transmission at the DOE’s Grid Deployment Office, and our moderator is Ted Boling, Partner at Perkins Coie. The panelists include Johan Cavert, Transmission Policy Analyst at the Niskanen Center; Megan Gibson, Chief Counsel at the Niskanen Center; Nicole Pavia, Program Manager for Clean Energy Infrastructure Deployment at the Clean Air Task Force; and Alex Breckel, Director for Clean Energy Infrastructure Deployment at the Clean Air Task Force.
