New CIO in Nebraska Brings Extensive State and Education C-Level Experience

Matthew J. McCarville, a prominent figure in the field of technology in education and government, has been selected by Governor Jim Pillen to serve as the new Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Nebraska.

Having graduated from a university in Nebraska, McCarville assumed his new role on Monday, succeeding former CIO Ed Toner, who officially retired on February 16th after serving in the position since 2015. During Toner’s retirement, Mark Neeman, a deputy within the Office of the Chief Information Officer, temporarily held the position until Pillen made the permanent appointment of McCarville.

In his new position, McCarville will be tasked with managing a substantial annual budget of million, overseeing the state’s enterprise applications and infrastructure, and heading a service-oriented IT organization. Governor Pillen expressed his anticipation in collaborating with McCarville to modernize and streamline the state’s IT systems, ultimately providing cost-saving benefits to taxpayers.

McCarville’s extensive experience was highlighted in the Governor’s announcement on Monday, emphasizing his capability to lead Nebraska into a more technologically advanced future.
