Creating the Ultimate Scrambled Tofu dish

Creating the Ultimate Scrambled Tofu dish

Scrambled tofu may sound strange to some, but don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. The key to the perfect scrambled tofu lies in achieving the right texture and flavor. Just like scrambled eggs, tofu is more about texture than flavor, so nailing the texture is crucial.

When choosing the type of tofu for your scrambled tofu, consider your desired consistency. Soft tofu is recommended by some for a smooth and creamy finish, while firmer tofu varieties can result in a drier, more solid scramble. It’s important to properly prepare the tofu before cooking – some recipes call for pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture, while others suggest leaving some moisture in for a softer scramble.

If you prefer a firmer scramble, opt for extra-firm or firm tofu. For a softer, more delicate scramble, soft or silken tofu is the way to go. Silken tofu, in particular, provides a wetter and smoother texture due to its unique production process.

Experiment with different types of tofu and cooking techniques to find your perfect scrambled tofu recipe. Don’t be afraid to get creative and enjoy this plant-based alternative to traditional scrambled eggs.

‘In Two Years, Drivers will Have the Ability to Take Eyes off the Road’

‘In Two Years, Drivers will Have the Ability to Take Eyes off the Road’

Ford Motor Co. is gearing up to revolutionize the driving experience in the United States in just two years. Chief Executive Officer Jim Farley announced that the company will introduce technology that allows drivers to take their hands off the wheel and their eyes off the road.

“We’re getting really close,” Farley stated in an interview with Bloomberg TV. “We can do it fairly regularly now with a prototype, but the next step forward will be to do it in a way that is cost-effective.”

Ford aims to start selling this capability in 2026, potentially making it the first mass-market vehicle brand to offer Level 3 autonomy. This means the car will handle driving duties, giving the driver the freedom to focus on other tasks.

“In a few years, level 3 autonomy will enable you to take your hands off the wheel on a highway, turning your car into an office,” Farley explained. “You could conduct a conference call and various other activities.”

While similar hands-free driving features are currently available on Ford and other cars, safety concerns have been raised following tragic collisions involving semi-autonomous systems. Ford’s BlueCruise technology is under scrutiny by US safety inspectors, along with systems from other companies like Tesla Inc.

Less than two years after Ford closed its autonomous subsidiary Argo AI, claiming that complete self-driving technology was still too far off, Farley made his prediction. Mercedes-Benz has already introduced an eyes-off option in the US, but it is currently limited to freeway use at speeds under 40 mph. Ford plans to take it a step further by potentially allowing drivers to use their system on highways at speeds up to 80 mph, but only in clear weather conditions.

Ford also has plans to offer subscription fees for features like BlueCruise to generate recurring revenue. Farley believes that high-margin software services will help mitigate the boom and bust cycles in the auto industry. The future of driving is rapidly evolving, and Ford is at the forefront of this innovation.

South Africa Receives m for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Research

South Africa Receives m for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Research

The National Research Foundation (NRF) has expressed its enthusiasm following the announcement of a significant million investment in the International Joint Initiative for Research in Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation.

Led by the Canada Research Coordinating Committee, this global joint initiative aims to fund interdisciplinary and trans-sectoral research on key climate change risks. The announcement was made in Ottawa, Canada, on Monday, 3 June 2024.

Collaborating with a consortium of research funders from Brazil, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States, the NRF is actively involved in funding four South African research projects under the initiative.

Additionally, two local projects are supported by the New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF), which backs innovative Canadian-led research ventures with global impact.

These research projects are part of a larger pool of 32 international interdisciplinary projects within the initiative, involving 424 researchers from 45 countries. The projects aim to create and implement adaptation and mitigation strategies for vulnerable populations most affected by the adverse effects of climate change.

The research funders have collectively contributed over million in additional funds to support these projects. NRF CEO, Dr Fulufhelo Nelwamondo, emphasized the positive impact of this financial boost, stating that it will elevate the research projects to new heights.

In addition to the investment in the joint initiative, the Canada Research Coordinating Committee also announced the grantees of the NFRF Exploration Competition. This competition annually supports research that brings together diverse disciplines from innovative perspectives, with a focus on various impacts ranging from economic to health-related.

This year, million was awarded to 133 research projects exploring topics such as the outer reaches of Earth’s atmosphere, transforming AI concepts into smart mechanical systems, and improving breast cancer detection using liquid biopsies.

Projects funded under the International Joint Initiative for Research in Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation are required to address at least two of the eight key risks identified in the sixth assessment report of the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. This report underscores the urgent need to address the unprecedented climate changes affecting ecosystems and societies globally.

The investments and grants announced showcase a collective effort towards tackling climate change and its impacts on vulnerable populations, reflecting a commitment to innovative research and collaboration on a global scale.
