‘Earth-inspired Rhodes MK8 Piano: Designed with the environment in focus’

Rhodes Music, in celebration of Earth Day, has unveiled its latest limited edition piano, the MK8 Earth Edition. This new piano follows the rapid sell-out of the MK8/75AE model in just 15 minutes, indicating a high demand for this unique instrument. The MK8 Earth Edition is expected to attract even more attention, with fewer units available than its predecessor.

Crafted to represent the lush forests that serve as its inspiration, the MK8 Earth Edition showcases exceptional craftsmanship and a strong commitment to sustainability. In addition to the piano launch, Rhodes is launching a tree-planting campaign and implementing eco-friendly manufacturing practices to minimize environmental impact. Through a partnership with the nonprofit organization One Tree Planted, Rhodes Music demonstrates its dedication to protecting the planet for future generations.

The MK8 Earth Edition Piano, made from American Walnut, features a sandblasted wooden base and hand-turned legs that highlight each instrument’s natural grain. Metal parts are uniquely coated with a stable rust effect, providing a distinct pattern on each component for a truly individualized appearance. Custom inlays, side panels with black dial inserts, and a forest green lid and pedal cover exclusive to the Earth Edition enhance the piano’s aesthetic appeal.

The piano’s integrated FX section offers enhanced sonic capabilities, including features like a VCA compressor, 4-stage phaser, and bucket brigade chorus and delay for rich audio textures suitable for live performances and studio use. To align with sustainable practices, the piano incorporates eco-conscious elements in its construction, such as a sustainable, recycled ABS material lid and FSC certified wood.

As part of the launch, Rhodes Music pledges to plant 500 trees for each of the 50 MK8 Earth Edition Pianos sold, totaling 25,000 trees to support global reforestation efforts. This limited edition not only showcases exceptional craftsmanship but also provides musicians and environmental enthusiasts with an opportunity to contribute to environmental preservation.

The MK8 Earth Edition Piano is priced at ,495 USD in the US, £10,995 GBP in the UK, and €12,995 EUR in the Eurozone. The piano will be available for purchase exclusively on the Rhodes website starting on Thursday, April 25th, at 9pm BST. The purchasing page will be password-protected until the official release time for customers to secure one of the 50 limited units available. Shipping for the MK8 Earth Edition Piano will begin in January 2025.

Rhodes CEO Matt Pelling stated, “Our mission extends beyond creating exceptional musical instruments; it aims to create positive change in the world. With the MK8 Earth Edition, we invite musicians and environmental enthusiasts to join us in harmonizing music with conservation.”
