Growing Trend Towards In-Store Shopping: Study

Growing Trend Towards In-Store Shopping: Study

A recent survey conducted among 600 U.S. retailers and 2400 shoppers revealed that consumers are increasingly favoring in-store shopping experiences over online shopping. The survey, released by PYMNTS Intelligence in collaboration with Visa Acceptance Solutions, found that the preference for in-store shopping has seen a rise since 2020, while the number of people preferring online shopping has decreased.

The survey also highlighted that 44 percent of shoppers prefer to do most of their shopping in physical stores. Despite this preference, only 20 percent of shoppers utilize digital coupons and discounts for their in-store purchases.

Interestingly, the survey noted a growing trend in the preference for in-store pickups of online orders, with 31 percent of consumers taking advantage of this service from retailers. Notably, 65 percent of shoppers who have used in-store pickup services reported satisfaction with the convenience it offers.

These findings underscore the importance of a well-rounded retail strategy that caters to the evolving preferences of consumers, combining the convenience of online shopping with the personalized experience of in-store visits. Retailers looking to enhance their customer experience should consider implementing a mix of digital solutions and traditional brick-and-mortar offerings to meet the changing demands of today’s shoppers.
