Last Chance to Design Custom MetroCards Available

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has announced the opportunity for advertisers to create the last two “premium” custom MetroCards to commemorate the retirement of the iconic MetroCard.

Since its introduction in 1994, the MetroCard has seen 400 different limited-edition designs, including collaborations with Supreme, David Bowie, Notorious B.I.G, Kate Spade, KISS, Law and Order, and Ice Spice.

MTA Chief Customer Officer Shanifah Rieara stated that creating one of these final custom MetroCards presents a unique opportunity for brands, artists, or cultural institutions to leave their mark on transit history. As the MTA moves towards tap and go payment methods using bank cards, smartphones, or wearable devices, these last two cards are expected to become highly sought-after collectibles.

This initiative aims to celebrate the retirement of the MetroCard while encouraging customers to embrace the convenience of tap and go payments. More information about the program and how to apply can be found on the MTA website.
