New CEO Chosen from Penobscot Valley Hospital’s Staff

Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln, Maine, has announced the appointment of Melissa Pelkey as the new CEO. Pelkey, who has been serving as the hospital’s chief nursing officer, will take on the role starting July 1. With over 20 years of experience in administrative leadership at rural Maine hospitals, Pelkey is well-equipped to lead the 25-bed critical access facility.

Pelkey, a registered nurse like her predecessor Crystal Landry, has a deep commitment to the hospital’s mission and vision. According to Phillip Dawson, president and chair of the hospital’s board of directors, Pelkey was chosen after a comprehensive search for a healthcare professional with the right skills and leadership abilities.

Landry, who announced her resignation in April to spend more time with her family, expressed confidence in Pelkey’s ability to lead Penobscot Valley Hospital into the future. Landry’s tenure saw the hospital through a Chapter 11 bankruptcy without any layoffs, with PVH emerging from bankruptcy in 2021. Under Landry’s leadership, the hospital was recognized for its dedication to exceptional care and currently employs about 175 people.

Pelkey’s transition to the CEO role is seen as a testament to her hard work, dedication to the community, and expertise in healthcare leadership. The board of directors is optimistic about Pelkey’s ability to navigate this changeover and lead the hospital towards a successful future. PVH looks forward to a new chapter under Pelkey’s guidance.
