New medical building opening on Monday in Wyoming Valley

Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center’s new medical specialty building is set to open on Monday, March 25. The 165,000-square-foot facility in Plains Township is designed to offer patients a convenient and comprehensive healthcare experience all under one roof.

During a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours held on a blustery March morning, dozens of dignitaries got a sneak peek inside the state-of-the-art facility. The design of the building focuses on providing a welcoming environment for patients, with an enclosed walkway connecting the building to a new 479-space parking garage.

The five-floor outpatient specialty facility will house a range of services, including lab, radiology, and retail pharmacy, as well as various medical practices such as general surgery, vascular surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, and more. The project cost 0 million, with million allocated for the office building and million for the parking garage.

Inside the building, a self-service check-in system aims to streamline the patient experience, while a bright and airy waiting area with a coffee bar offers comfort for those waiting. The modern amenities and comfortable accommodations are designed to enhance the patient experience and accommodate the evolving nature of healthcare over the past four decades.

The facility also features large exam rooms connected to separate corridors for patient and provider traffic, providing privacy for patients and space for clinicians to collaborate on care plans. Services will be opening gradually, with different practices beginning to see patients starting Monday.

Geisinger expects the new facility to accommodate the growing population of older adults in the region, providing more specialty appointments and job opportunities. The facility aims to promote better health outcomes by offering a one-stop-shop for healthcare services outside of a traditional hospital setting, making it more convenient for patients to access necessary care.

The new building includes facilities for education and community engagement, reflecting Geisinger’s commitment to being a leading academic medical center in the region. It also serves as an investment in the community and provides opportunities for medical students to train in Geisinger’s residency and fellowship programs.

Overall, the new medical specialty building represents a significant advancement in healthcare delivery in the region, offering improved care to residents and serving as a hub for medical education and training. As Geisinger CEO Jaewon Ryu stated, the facility is a testament to making better health easier and providing a seamless healthcare experience for patients.
