OnePlus 12 and 11 to Get New AI Capabilities

Unlike Samsung’s Galaxy S24 which gets brand-new and saucy AI features, OnePlus launched the OnePlus 12 with a primary emphasis on major hardware changes. Fortunately, this doesn’t mean the OnePlus 12 (review) will not receive any AI love. New update firmware updates with AI-powered features have rolled out to OnePlus 12 and 11 models in China, indicating the same could happen to global variants in the coming weeks.

Spotted first on Reddit (via Mishaal Rahman), OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 11 (review) users rocking Chinese models received a modest-sized software update as part of ColorOS 14’s regular January patches and fixes. The firmware was labeled as PHB110_14.0.0.405 and 14.0.0.403 on the OnePlus 12 and 11, respectively.

New AI features arriving on OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 11

Along with the fix to the fingerprint scanner and other changes, the update includes a few AI features that will debut for the first time on OnePlus devices. It introduces AI Summarizer, AIGC Remover, and Article Summarizer. There is also a mention of an upgrade for Breeno Touch, which is the company’s assistant-based function in China.

Regarding the AI Summarizer, the changelog described the feature as a phone calls summarizer where vital information is extracted, including times, actions to complete, and an overall summary of the call. An AI summarizer will be available for articles as well, which should work similar to Samsung’s web page summarizer on the Galaxy S24 via Galaxy AI.

Another AI-ready entry is called AIGC Remover and appears as OnePlus’ take on Google’s Magic Eraser photo editor that removes unwanted objects from photos. However, it remains unclear whether this supports generative editing similar to Samsung’s Galaxy AI or Google’s Magic Eraser.

At the moment, there is no timeline when a similar update will arrive for OnePlus 12 and 11 devices outside of China. It is also possible OnePlus’ foldable Open (review) smartphone should receive the firmware as well.

Likewise, there is no word on when we will receive other saucy AI-based features like Circle to Search and live phone call translation on OnePlus and non-Samsung Android devices. Samsung and Google likely have the intention to make these popular entries exclusive to their handsets.

Which of the new Galaxy AI functions would you like to see added to OnePlus smartphones? Share your suggestions with us in the comments.
