The James Beard Foundation (JBF) and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) recently hosted a policy salon focusing on regenerative agriculture, the next farm bill, and the COVER Act. Led by Representative Chellie Pingree, Representative Sean Casten, JBF vice president of Programs Dr. Anne E. McBride, and NRDC senior attorney Matthew Kaplan, the discussion aimed to address the challenges faced by farmers and chefs.
This event marked the beginning of JBF’s Climate Solutions for Restaurant Survival campaign. Chefs from New York City and Washington, D.C. shared how the current farming system directly impacts their businesses and highlighted the need for efficient and sustainable supply chain programs for independent restaurants.
Pingree and Casten highlighted the importance of creating policies that address the current issues faced by farmers and chefs. Pingree emphasized the significance of the upcoming farm bill, stating, “This is the largest opportunity we have to make a real difference in the future of our climate and agricultural practices.”
