Ron Rochon, President of USI, will be stepping down

The president of the University of Southern Indiana, Ron Rochon, has announced his departure to take on a new role on the West Coast. Rochon, who has been serving as USI’s president since 2018, will be stepping into the position of president at California State University-Fullterton starting in July.

Rochon first joined USI as provost in 2010, bringing with him experience as the dean of the School of Education and associate vice president for teacher education at Buffalo State College in New York. In a statement on the university’s website, Rochon expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve the USI community and described it as one of the greatest honors of his life.

His final day at USI will be on July 22, with the university’s board of trustees expected to appoint an interim president before his departure. At California State University, Rochon will be taking over from interim president Sylvia Alva, who has been leading the institution since last August.

Chair of the CSU Board of Trustees, Wenda Fong, commended Rochon for his innovative and student-centered leadership style, emphasizing his commitment to fostering collaboration and prioritizing student success. Rochon’s appointment is seen as setting an ambitious trajectory for CSUF’s future.

In addition to his new role, Rochon is also a two-time honoree on IBJ Media’s prestigious Indiana 250 list.
