The Sensitive Renovation of a 1920s Atlanta Bungalow

A 1925 bungalow in Atlanta’s historic Inman Park neighborhood has undergone a remarkable transformation, thanks to the dedication of a pair of doctors and a talented team of designers and architects. The homeowners were drawn to the older home’s unique architecture and were committed to honoring its character.

Interior designers Lathem Gordon and Cate Dunning, along with residential designer Todd Pritchett and architect Craig Dixon, worked together to preserve the home’s original charm while expanding and updating it to meet the needs of a growing family. The project involved adding a three-story addition to the rear of the home, while preserving the living and dining rooms in their original state.

The team utilized every square inch of the space, including converting the basement into a wine-tasting room, seating area, powder room, and guest suite. They also restored and repurposed original elements of the home, such as the stained glass windows and vintage fireplaces. The designers incorporated a British aesthetic with bold colors, patterns, and whimsical touches throughout the home, creating a comfortable and lively atmosphere.

The wife expressed her joy in living in a home where past and future intersect, noting that despite initial challenges, the house immediately felt like home. The renovated bungalow now serves as a reflection of the family’s creativity, imagination, and history, providing a unique and welcoming space for the couple and their three young daughters.
